Valley Reads 2013: a river of readers

April 18-20 with author Arthur Phillips

Valley Reads is a thought-provoking and inspiring opportunity for our community to come together to explore ideas, share perspective, and open our hearts and minds. All events are free and open to the public, donations requested.

In April, the St. Croix River Valley will be reading The Tragedy of Arthur by Minneapolis native Arthur Phillips. The Tragedy of Arthur will challenge you to figure out what is real, what is true and who assigns value.

Arthur Phillips is acclaimed as “one of the best writers in America” (The Washington Post). Phillips will be in the St. Croix Valley beginning on Thursday, April 18 through Saturday, April 20 to share his work, his process and his Shakespearean play!Educated at Harvard, Phillips has been a child actor, a jazz musician, a speechwriter, a dismally failed entrepreneur, and a five-time Jeopardy! Champion. The Tragedy of Arthur, published in 2011 by Random House, is a New York Times Notable Book. His other titles include Prague, The Egyptologist, Angelica and The Song is You.

The play taken from The Tragedy of Arthur is in development for a full stage production. Phillips is also creating a series for HBO/Pretty Matches Productions, and has two other television pilots in development. He lives in New York with his wife and two sons
