This intro COURSE is designed for someone who has never experienced pole fitness and wants to learn the art of pole in a fun and welcoming environment.

- All participants within this class must be 14 years or older.**Ages 14-17 must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver before your 1st class.**

The day will include conversation, playfully opening up your voice, community singing, gentle stretching, mindful walking (or sitting) on Belwin’s trails, and vocal improv games in the middle of the pine forest.

No singing experience or talent required at all. Must be 16 and older. Bring your own lunch; Light snacks, tea and hot chocolate provided. Led by Lynette Anderson and Barbara McAfee.

Come and meet Tim Hugley, a local resident who will chat about why and how he creates those beautiful walking sticks that he provides for our park. The St. Croix Riverway is a National Treasure. This is an opportunity for us to explore an environment and find ways this green/blue space can support our physical, mental, and emotional health. Join us for a 90-minute reflective experience guiding you to a deeper connection to the St. Croix River Valley and your own wellness. The River Valley is not only a metaphor but a great teacher and source of wisdom in discovering connection, stewardship, and respecting our environment and human needs. Each session brings a new intention during a different season to broaden our appreciation of the St. Croix River Valley.

This epic 3 week 2000+ mile race is just about to start across the pond from May 4-26, and if you've ever been to Italy you would know that it's almost impossible not to bump into a vineyard every other kilometer.

Join us as we sip our way through the route so that when you are flipping it on the television, you can actually see the places you are tasting through in our class! It's looking like this year, we may find ourselves tasting some Liguria, Piedmont, Trentino-Alto Adige, Marche, Campania, and Tuscan wine... You will learn more about the history of the race, the regions they are panting their way through, and even possibly a couple stories from when I was fortunate enough to follow some of these legendary tours.

It is at this time of year that the amphibians of our ponds are singing loudly to attract their mates. We will gather for a brief introduction at the office and then head out to a paved trail to listen and look for signs of spring. Total length of the walk is about 1 mile. We will be walking at a moderate pace with several stops along the way.

This program is appropriate for anyone 8 years and older. Please dress for the weather. This program will go rain or shine.

This retreat is hosted twice a year (spring and fall) and is an opportunity for anyone who identifies as a woman to spend time in nature, meet new people, and learn new skills. Our campus of over 780 acres has so much to explore, including 12 miles in trails, lake access, prairie and wetland restoration sites, and much more. We also offer various lodging options for the retreat, including several lakeside lodges and our White Pine Campground. The weekend is full of possibilities, and we encourage you to join us!

“Heritage Highlight: Nature’s Laboratory” will bring the community together to learn about foraging, herbal medicine, and traditional ethnobotany from Master Alchemist, Heather Mashuga and The Friendly Forager, Tanna Worrell. Our teachers will have a variety of their products available for purchase. Hear about the Heritage Area and Carpenter Nature Center’s programs. Enjoy refreshments and a delicious tea made from locally foraged ingredients.

It also is a great class for those who have crocheted many years ago and need a little encouragement to get back into it.

First, you learn about the best hooks and yarn and then you work on a simple square pattern of single crochet stitches that you can be made into a dishcloth, hot pad, or cup cozy. Cara helps students troubleshoot any issues and learn to make those perfect edges. Once the basic stitch is understood, students may move on to other stitches and projects.

Age Requirement:

Students ages 10 and older may attend this class. Ages 10-15 must register with another registered adult.

About the Artist:

​Hello! I’m Cara. I started my career as a features writer for newspapers and magazines, but eventually realized I wanted to expand my work into my lifelong passion for crafting. I have always been inspired by my crafty and thrifty grandmother, Mary Marie Mason, who taught me how important it was to take time out to make something with your hands. Now I design patterns, teach classes, and sell my handmade items.

In my knitting and crochet classes, my goal is to build confidence in beginners by starting with chunky knit projects you can finish in one class. Once you’ve mastered that project, you can move on to smaller and smaller needles and yarn. I love the moments when it clicks for students.

More fun facts: I grew up in Kansas, then lived in Des Moines, IA, Boulder, CO, and the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to Saint Paul, MN with my husband, Mike. We have two great kids, Harper and Max.

Back by popular demand! Signe Fluegel will be teaching two Swedish language classes on a new day – Sundays – from May 5th-June 23rd – a Beginning class (1:30 p.m.) and an Advancing class (2:30 p.m.) Note: There is no class on May 12th (Mother’s Day) or May 26th (Memorial Day weekend).

The classes are ideal for those preparing for a trip to Sweden, visiting relatives, and/or translating family records/recipes.

The cost is $60/per person for 6 weeks, and includes materials. Please register by emailing [email protected] or calling 651-429-1012.  Payment is due at the first class.

The Beginning class is for those with little or no knowledge of the Swedish language. The Advancing class is for those with a fair knowledge of the Swedish language who wish to continue to learn and keep their proficiency. All classes have a strong focus on verbal skills, grammar, reading comprehension, and conversation skills.

Kayla will guide students through carving a bird-like stamp and printing the design on a tea towel. The skills learned in class apply to future block printing projects—walk away with all the tools you’ll need to keep printing!

Students will need to purchase their own block-printing starter set here.

This coming Saturday and for the next three months to come, A House Unbuilt studio and neighboring Megan Miller Fine Art will be open in downtown Stillwater at 321 Main Street (corner of Nelson and Main). The stairway off Main Street and the stairway/elevator access off Water Street will be open to the second floor.

April 13th: Hop on over to A House Unbuilt Studio for Second Saturday Art! This month we’re featuring “Choreography of the Hands: deconstructing the rhythms and gesturers of crochet, knitting, and needlework.” Come share your wisdoms and experiences of this embodied practice that leaves a very special mark on our community.

We will be supplying water and snacks for all. Cost is very minimal because we want to make it possible for all to participate, although all are welcome to join us without payment if it's a financial hardship to you.

The first 50 participants (along with fighters/survivors) arriving will receive a wrist band honoring the cause.

The event profits will be donated to a local charity, which provides assistance to those battling breast cancer.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are participating and are currently battling cancer or are a cancer survivor, your registration is FREE at no cost.

This years local charity is the Breast Cancer Coalition.

You'll expand your cocktail repertoire during this delicious three-hour course! You will make yourself four craft cocktails under the tutelage and watchful eye of experienced bar veterans from the Best Bartender in the Valley collective. Drink them during the course or bottle them up and take them home to share!

You will receive detailed literature so that you can repeat these feats again in your kitchen or home bar or with friends at a party.

Each ticket guarantees a seat and drinks for one. Buy multiple if you would like to take your girlfriends along and sit together.

On-street and ramp parking (across the street) available. Multiple local restaurants in walking distance if you are looking to dine before you show up!

This tour is being led by Dan Sandager of Abrahamson Nurseries, and is geared for high school students (15+ years old) and adults.

Kayla will guide students through the history and process of paper quilling to create a card at home using a provided kit. The finished card will be perfect for sending a spring greeting for a graduation, thank you, or wedding. Suitable for ages 16+.

This is a live virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities.

Kits ($15 value) are included in the class fee. Each kit includes tools and materials for one student. Kits will be available for pick up at Gammelgården Museum starting May 8th or can be shipped for an additional $10 fee. Registration for this kit-based class closes on May 1st or whenever it is sold out.

$65 per person ($55 Gammelgården member). A registration link will be posted in February 2024.

All projects are designed to promote creativity and hands-on STEAM learning in a fun and social environment.

Camp options are 4 or 5 days in June, July and August.

Bicycling offers an ideal pace to examine the landscape thoroughly, but still cover a large area. You’ll not just see these features, you’ll feel them as you alternately climb and descend, mostly on low-traffic roads and paths. The route includes the deep valley of the St. Croix River valley and the flat terraces on its shoulders, exposures of ancient bedrock as we climb out of the valley, a rolling terrain of features related to sediment deposited by glaciers and subsequently eroded by their meltwater, discussion of groundwater resources and lakes, and finally, a sweet glide back into the valley.

Participants will be required to wear a helmet and to follow safe riding practices that will be discussed prior to departure. Make sure your bike is in good working order as no mechanical support is provided. E-bikes are welcome.

Students are asked to bring:

Plenty of water and snacks, as there are no food stops along the way.
Sunscreen and bug spray, as needed.

Age Requirement & Skill Level
The ride is suited to adults (18+) who are comfortable with riding at least 15 miles including some steep hills.

NOTE: Be aware we may cancel class if a minimum number of registrations is not reached. We work to balance teachers’ need to plan for a class with students’ busy schedules — not an easy task. Please register as early as possible!
