In 2022, Minnesota artist Dougie Padilla’s great friend, Ojibwe artist Jim Denomie, passed away suddenly. Shortly thereafter, Dougie visited ArtReach’s exceptional show of Jim’s last work, “Sweet Dreams.” To face his grief, Dougie dove into an intense aesthetic and spiritual conversation with Jim and his art. Within six months, 60+ works of art had been born. This show is the best of those efforts.

Two artists who share a mutual reverence for the beauty of nature will be exhibiting their work together at the Stillwater Art Guild Gallery. Through painting, both artists share a common desire to capture and convey the beauty of the natural world.

Carol Dittbenner visually explores art and life through her oil and acrylic paintings, seeking the challenges of exploring different mediums.

Angie Malin, a plein air oil painter, captures her reaction to the authenticity and peace she finds in nature.

The peaceful English countryside may never be the same after Bertie Wooster and his unflappable valet, Jeeves, pay a visit. What starts as a plan to pair tongue-tied, amphibian-loving Augustus Fink-Nottle and fanciful, poetry-loving Madeline Basset quickly goes awry. Soon, Bertie is fending off Madeline’s amorous advances, reluctantly participating in an attempted burglary, and fleeing attacks from a homicidal French chef. With the stakes this high, the solution must lie with the one and only Jeeves!

Earth Fest is a free community celebration of the past, present, and future sustainability efforts in River Falls and the surrounding area. Earth Fest 2024 will be held on Saturday, April 20, from 12-4 pm at the UW-River Falls University Center. Free shuttle transportation will be available from several River Falls locations in collaboration with the River Falls Bluegrass Festival.

Paul Douglas is a meteorologist with 45 years of television and radio experience. Douglas writes a daily Minneapolis Star Tribune weather column and has weather duties on WCCO Radio. Douglas has authored four books, including his most recent , "A Kid's Guide to Saving the Planet." As a religious conservative who began as a climate change skeptic, Douglas is now viewing climate change as undeniable and believes that caring for our planet is a moral and spiritual obligation.

Just a taste of that sunshine on our shoulders, and we are quickly pining for some warm weather wines over here at So What Wine! We are pulling together our favorites this season and can't wait to share them with you at this Spring Fever Walk Around. Hosted at You + Me Cafe, you can walk around different tables and taste through over 30 wines that are sure to be perfect with this summer's picnics, backyard bbqs, camping, and boating excursions!

Set up like our Holiday walk around last December, we anticipate this will sell out, so we opened up two time slots this year! Choose carefully and please respect the start/finish so we can fit everyone comfortably! Light snacks will be provided.

Mexican-born Minneapolis artist Xavier Tavera documents the aesthetics of the borderland landscape. He reminds the viewer that, historically, artist-rendered landscapes were not meant to be contemplative. Rather, they were a statement of ownership. “Arid and rugged, the landscape is divided by a man‑made scar that snakes through the topography in fragmented sections from west to east along the continent.”

Do you have an interest in historic engineering? Curious about Scandia history? Step back in time with Architectural Historian Charlene Roise to discover reasons behind the unique design of Scandia's Water Tower Barn that once stood behind the Scandia Mercantile. Using a 1905 Aermotor manual as a guide, Charlene studied the windmill remnants that remained in the building and unraveled the mystery behind a double outer wall on the tower, beefy windmill supports, and water tank design.

Artifacts on display will include an Aermotor windmill, an antique wood water tank, and Aermotor literature.

Oregon’s Willamette Valley is a trove for spectacular Pinot Noir that exhibit nuanced differences from one place to another depending on soils, winemaking philosophy, and clone. But this isn’t all the Willamette has to offer. From coastal, crisp whites, to barrel-aged chardonnays and funky natural wines, this region has a whole other side so many of us miss!

We want to take you through the history, geography, and geology of the wondrous Willamette Valley and explore how place impacts Pinot with a few classics we love from 3 different parts of the valley. We will also taste you on a few other major grapes (and a couple oddballs) from producers who are shaking up the image we have of this area as consumers begin to learn of this region's next frontier for wine. Willamette is so much more than Pinot (even if we love them!) -- they are home to so much diversity, creativity, and collaboration.

Manger in Bayport will be hosting So What for this one, so if you decide you want to stay on for a fantastic dinner, be sure to make some reservations. You will get a complimentary glass of wine with your meal.

A prolific and acclaimed writer, Urrea explores themes of love, loss and triumph. His 2018 novel The House of Broken Angels is a masterpiece swirling around death, celebrating living, touching sorrow and embracing joy. Urrea will discuss the story of Big Angel and his final fiesta. This evening is supported by Valley Bookseller.

See birds up-close and watch the experts band birds at CNC. Banding runs continuously, so come and go as you please. Donations of bird seed and suet are appreciated in lieu of a program fee.

All banding, marking, and sampling is being conducted under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey’s BBL.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED

Join birding expert Ben Douglas on a guided walk focusing on finding sparrows and their allies during spring migration. Learn tips and tricks that can help identify the different species, as well as other birds by sight and sound.

The majority of the program will be outdoors. Please dress for the weather. We recommend you bring binoculars, however rentals are available at the Visitor Center.

Program Fee: This program is FREE, however donations are always appreciated!

Celebrate Arbor day by planting a tree! We will be planting 250 native trees and shrubs as a part of our ongoing habitat restoration projects. All ages are welcome! Shovels and gloves available, or bring your own. Come dressed for the weather and with sturdy footwear and a water bottle. No registration required. Stay for the whole day or drop in when you can.

We take over the Hudson Middle School once again this year!  Tons of room for all our vendors and crafters and all their awesome spring décor - come see what they have been up to all winter!  Food trucks planned and as always, our shows are Free to the public.  Vendors sign up early, this will be a big one.  Hours:  Open on Saturday 10am - 4pm.
