Telling the Spring: St. Croix Valley – Agate Magazine
Dear St. Croix Valley writers, photographers, friends and neighbors: In a rare bit of good news, you may have noticed that spring has arrived as hoped. Agate magazine would like to invite you all to share your observations of the season’s passage through our local St. Croix Valley landscapes through a project we’re calling Telling the Spring: St. Croix Valley. Beginning now and until the summer solstice on June 20, you are welcome to tell us what you’re seeing out your windows or experiencing in the natural world. Please provide your name, the date seen and a general location (not an address or GPS) since it’s not our goal to attract people to an area. At Agate, we’ll collect your observations and periodically share the results of the project through this free, nonprofit on-line magazine, so please don’t send anything you don’t want shared with the public. Short notes, a few paragraphs, poetry, photos and audio recordings are all welcome, about everything from streams to wild birds, from turtles, to wildflowers, from calling coyotes to falling stars. Send as often as you wish via email to info.agatemagazine@gmail.com. Please tell friends without email that snail mail is also welcome. Send to: Attn. L. Allmann, P.O. Box 98,
Marine on St. Croix, MN, 55047.

This project will not only mitigate the negative effects of graffiti and unwanted postings on utility boxes, and thus reducing maintenance costs to the City of River Falls, it will also create lasting pieces of art that will improve the appearance of downtown for residents and visitors alike. This project will recognize and celebrate local artists, showcase local history, and foster a culture of the arts in River Falls. This project will add a unique attraction to the area encouraging visitors to stop and explore the town. Each participant will develop and submit a preliminary visual concept for the mural to be installed on the selected utility boxes.
